IMPORTANT

The reason a 700 x 38B tire will not fit a 700C wheel is because they have completely different, incompatible bead seat diameters (BSD). 
  • 700C Wheels: Use the ISO/ETRTO standard of 622 mm.
  • 700B Tires: Use an archaic, obsolete French sizing standard with a BSD of 635 mm. [1, 2]
Because the tire is 13 mm larger in diameter than the rim, it will be far too loose and will easily pop off, making it incredibly dangerous to ride.
How to Find the Right Fit
To ensure your new tire fits your wheel safely, you should ignore the old lettered sizes (A, B, or C) and look specifically for the ETRTO/ISO number printed on your current tire or rim. 
  • Check the 3 digits: Your 700C wheel will have a size code ending in 622 (e.g., 38-622). 
  • Match the numbers: You need to buy a tire that also ends in 622 mm. A tire labeled 700 x 38C is completely compatible because it is an ETRTO 38-622 tire. 
  • Search correctly: In the modern market, you can also search for 28-inch or 29-inch tires, as they share the same 622 mm rim diameter and will fit perfectly.
